A research paper, sometimes called an overview, critiques a topic or argues a particular point. Whatever type of research paper that you’re writing, your completed research paper must present your opinion backed up by other people’s thoughts and observations as well as facts. For instance, my instructor would like me to inquire about the relationship between political party structure and economic prosperity. Sometimes my professor would like me to discuss something completely different. By thinking about what your instructor wants you to discuss in your research paper, you’ll be able to keep your research question relevant throughout the research process.

Do your due diligence. When I refer to “due diligence,” I mean researching all the sources you plan on using in your paper. This includes searching all the Internet sources that you can. Even if you stumble across an academic journal that deals with other subject, it’s likely that you’ll come across academic papers that were written using research from that journal. Do your homework.

In the end when writing research papers, you must have a clear direction for your topic as well as solid references. It is crucial to know the distinctions between a critical thinking assignment or research paper.
