A term paper is typically a study paper written by undergraduate students during an academic period, typically accounting for quite a large portion of a final grade. Merriam-Websters defines term papers as “A major writing assignment on an assigned subject, typically a representation of the subject matter at a school or college to demonstrate the student’s accomplishment.” While most students would view term papers as a vital part of their academic curriculum however, some consider the process of writing them to be a form of self-expression. Academic term papers are a prime example of this type of expression.

One of the most common mistakes made by beginners is to begin their term paper with an outline. Although outlining is a good method to start however, it shouldn’t be the primary focus. You’ll likely have to write an essay that is longer than 500 words in length. This means that you’ll be required to communicate your ideas in the most concise and clear manner that you can. One way to do this is to use your outline as a starting point, writing your main ideas first. The outline can serve as a guideline so that you do not hit a brick wall while trying to figure out what to write.

Plagiarizing other academic papers or even writing your own term papers could be tempting.
